Hello readers, nice to have you on this blog. This article will be based on “rooting android devices along with some of its benefits”. Sure, you may have heard about “rooting an android phone or tablet” from a friend or you read it somewhere on the web but you aren’t sure what it actually does. Whatever the case maybe, this article will help you. So, without taking much of your time, let’s get right to it.

What exactly does it mean to root an android device?

By the definition, root means having the ability to write to the root of the system partition.
The “root” originates from the “Linux operating system”, where the most privileged user on the system is referred to as the “root”, otherwise known as the (Administrator on windows operating system).
In a simpler term, gaining root access or rooting an android phone is the process of modifying the pre-installed operating system that came along with the device at the time of purchase. This means overcoming those limitations that the manufactures and carriers put on the device, extending the system functionality and even upgrading to a custom operating system(Custom ROM) without waiting for a system update from your carrier.
At its core, rooting gives the owner of a device more control and access. The highest level of privilege you can have on a Linux system is to be logged into the device as the root user, sometimes called the superuser. The terms "superuser" and "root" both refer to the same thing.
In short, once you root your android device you’ve opened a lot of possibilities that allows you to do tons of different things and gives you full control over the device.

Why do I need to root my phone?

Gaining root access is comparable to running programs on windows (OS) as an administrator. You have full access to alter the system files and make changes to the way the OS behaves. As part of the rooting method, a special program called the SuperSU is installed during the process, this program provides root access to apps that request it.

Let’s check out some of the basic benefits of rooting an android phone.Full control over your device

Yes you have the privilege to alter any system files, change your boot animation and logo, use custom fonts, over clock and down clock your CPU, delete some annoying system apps such as Nascar Sprint Cup Mobile and Sprint’s NFL Mobile Live and other native apps that you don’t like seeing. There are many methods on the web on how to accomplish these processes, which all requires you to gain root access.

Backup and restore the whole device

Having root access ensures you’ll never lose anything again, you can make full backups of your apps and system to an SD card. This is handy incase you’d like you try a new ROM or ran into some problems while trying a new tweak and you have to fix the OS, as you can backup your device, wipe it completely, flash the new ROM, and if it doesn’t suit your taste, just restore from your backup to get your device back to exactly how it was before any changes was made.
All this can be done using a program called the custom recovery image such as TWRP which is what you need in order to backup and restore your device. This recovery image is special program that can be booted into the outside of the phone’s operating system, like an OS recovery option on a PC. The default recovery image on must android only gives a few options, usually related to wiping the phone, while in custom recovery images more options are available which include scripts that can do things like backup and restore the system, create partitions, fix file permissions, and flash custom ROMs that the default recovery image will otherwise reject.

Installing Custom ROMs

The custom ROMs that were initially available offered just a few tweaks such as debugging information, access to developers only option of the operating system and things like that.
Today, the Android ROM community has grown immensely, and custom ROMs have been developed for most android phones available in the market.
They went far beyond simple tweaks, where you can now give your phone an entirely new feel and look. Some custom ROMs can make your phone run super-fast by replacing the kernel with highly-optimized versions or even overclocking the CPU. The most popular custom ROM out there is Lineage OS formerly called Cyanogen Mod. So, if you are interested in flashing a custom ROM on your phone, Google is your best friend, head on to Google and search for [“Your Phone Name custom ROM”] and see what comes up. You’ll likely find a forum or an article with information or guide on how to get started.

How do I root my android device?

The most common method of rooting is by installing a third-party app, there are several types of such apps which are available for download on the internet or on Google Play store [e.g. KingRoot, KingoRoot, iRoot and so on]. But the most popular one is the “kingRoot” which is a free app on Google Play store.

NB:this method of gaining root with KingRoot requires internet connectivity, so it is recommended you turn on your mobile data or Wifi connectivity till the rooting process ends.

Instructions:

Step1:Download and install KingRoot on your Android phone here

Step2: Tap on the KingRoot icon, this will start the app and you will have an interface as below. If your phone is not rooted, you will see it from the prompt showing “Root access unavailable”.

Step3:Tap the “TRY TO ROOT” to start rooting.

Step4:When the rooting process is done, you will see a big green tick icon. Now you can head on to start removing bloatware apps, purify system, etc. with the KingRoot app.

Although this method might not work for certain devices, since in some cases differs for every device. What you should do is Google for the exact model of your device, in which you would find several guides and videos on how you can root your phone [E.g. How to root “Gionee M5”].

Warning: To root your phone is up to you, but if you decide on trying it out here’s the truth:

rooting does void your warranty and you may end up bricking your phone simply trying to root it (i.e. it may no longer function), so it’s advisable to do some little research before trying anything.

How do I know if my device is rooted?

This is fairly simple, download and install an app call rootchecker from Google play store, open the app and follow the on-screen instructions, it will show you whether your device is rooted or not.
